Small Town Charm

Meet the Council

Mayor Lynda Haarstad Petten

As I move forward to the final year of this term on Council, I have a deep satisfaction on what we, as a Council, have accomplished.

Over the years, with excellent budgeting, Council were able to build our reserves to enable us to accomplish some very large projects.  Badly needed sewer upgrades have been completed, the street to the Blindman Valley Agricultural Centre and the parking lot for the curling rink have been upgraded. Roofing repairs to both the arena and curling rink to eliminate leaks were done.

Council has implemented a policy wherein organizations can apply for funding to help with some of their projects.  This has been very well received and applications continue to grow each year.

New businesses continue see us as a viable place to put roots down – a sign that we are progressing. We do, however, need to have more industrial businesses to help with our tax base.

The Highway 12 bypass has been completed and Council are working with Alberta Transportation to obtain illumination and better signage at each entrance.

The highway through Bentley will become our responsibility in 2017 and Council will be focussing on doing upgrades to main street.  Input from many community members resulted in a plan being developed as to how main street should be upgraded.  With the street now becoming our responsibility, the upgrades can be done.  We know the changes will be positive – both for the businesses as well as our community.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at 403-748-4922 or at lpetten@shaw.ca should you have any questions or comments.  Your opinions matter to me.

Council Committee Appointments pdf file

Would you like to address Council but are unsure of the procedure?  The following guidelines are provided to help you.

Contact the municipal office, either by telephone, fax or e-mail, indicating the topic you wish to discuss with Council.  Once you have made your request to attend as a delegation, you will be advised of the date and time of your appointment at a Council meeting.

Any documents you have that will aid Council in making informed decisions would be appreciated.  These should be left at the municipal office the week prior to your meeting with Council so that copies can be made for the agenda packages.

At the meeting you attend, Council members will listen to your presentation and ask any questions of you to help them clearly understand.  A decision will not be made at that meeting but will be added to the next agenda.  This is to give administration sufficient time to research, if necessary.
